Exiern- Comic online

20080403http://www.exiern.com

I am addicted to that cartoon, sarcastic tone, awesome plot, piss-taking, drawing in itself is sketchy but it has the undefinable characteristic of making me laugh out loud and that is very very rare those days.

Packing for manchester or the unsee Monolith

procrastination

I wasn't home all week-end and  after an evening of trying out outfit for an official party on friday, leaving the house in a state of utter chaos, I must re-organise the clutter into manageable chunks so our cleaner can CLEAN floors, which are unvisible to the human eye ATM. Add the paperwork mess and the food leftovers and the piled up clean Laundry.....I also want to finish my script today as I am meeting the nerve people on wednesday and would like my idea to be as cristal clear as possible in my head.... Take the equation and multiply by 3 or 4 hours available.  Guess I will simply head back to the internet now:)

“The darkest thing about Africa has always been our ignorance of it.”

DSC_0223

Sitting quietly in a haze of suitcases opened , dark wodden bowl, necklaces, carvings on the floor and slowly realising I am back...3 days in Europe and Africa is still on my mind. I was in Cameroun for 6 weeks, in Douala. The entire trip was business and the outcome is positive but in the process I have had to experience another dimension of life, ponder and think about why we are here, what are my values, how can I fit in this world, how will I live the rest of my life. Deep questions, simple questions and also take responsibilites I did not want. I got told I would have to go back, only if I want to of course I have a choice.

The african family is elastic. You are part of a tribe, your family, values are set, you take care of your kid's brother or cousin if one of them die, it is the unwritten law, an unwritten truth that you live by, in return you get an unconditional support, an unconditionnal love, a recognition. You are not valued through your work but through your social relations and expressing yourself is essential, if you lie, twist the truth in the process well as long as it fits your own agenda why not. People don't think long turn, they can't, they don't have enough money to do that so they size the day, carpe diem is fully understood there, they also laugh more then us, they share stories, discuss all aspects of their lives in a merry and simple atmosphear, men and women alike. it makes our world seem baren and cold in comparison, living in our little bublles protected from others at all time, building a fortress of cards made of money, fear. Having less means often having more. I can't truly put it into words. I can only look back and in retrospect take into my life what I have seen of value, try to integrate it into an everyday full of emptyness too often, where you drown yourself in useless activities to forget why you are, who you could be if you gave yousrself a choice.

By the waterfront there is a Tall ship that was used in anold Italian film, can't seem to remember when it was shoot or the name of it...I can't beleive memory abandons me.....oh well that what it looks like then

Italy...a full bodied wine most evening, seafood salad on a plate, squid lifeless in drizzled olive oil, pesto on freshly baked pasta, my tongue on a high, 8 hours of constant walking legs as hard as basalt rocks... 2 hands holding onto each other and smiles that brightens the darkest sky...Guess It was a blessing to get this week of unexpected holiday.

18005

I strolled around the old town, a labyrinth of confusing road build  to confuse the ennemy if they ever managed to break down the first fortress, it leads to funny twists and getting lost more than once You get accustomed to the streets and recognise them according to which store is opened but as soons as night falls; and the shops close down; you have no more means to determine where you are heading, at least I don't...... as you can see a mix of old and new,an amalgam of disparats.

17827

The old town is composed of high buildings so you can happily sit in a cold shade all day, every corner, 2 metres high,
has a saint looking; sitting in an alcove, watching over us....Very arty in an italian way and a religious way too...

I came across  Saint Augustine's church hidden away. Gem nested in a hidden street.

And also a scooter parking, we have bicycles park in Holland and it's what made me truly realise I was in italy.

I liked especially spending half an afternoon in the aquarium, a soundless, bubbly, heaven where I took many inspiring pictures for some of my art projects. Dolphins, Northern and southern creatures, shadows where you could sit and ponder. I enjoy pondering if you hadn't noticed by now:) Can't deny anymore that my favorite place is underwater.

Espen bumped into an old working colleague on the yard, Mauro, we used to party with him back In france, St-nazaire, before I opened this blog. We visited his place in Savona and promised to come visit again.

Also got to see the beautiful Francesca and Sophus in Santa-Marguerita. Hope we can soon come to visit for an extended visit as the area seems amasing. Regardless I should see them this summer in Norway.

"A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you've been taking. "Earl WIlson

Have had bad dreams for the past week, it started a day before we left Gib, I woke up drenched in sweat, like a drowned kitten hanging to the blankie for his life, vivid images throbbing, anguish, fear , shame any awkward feelings intertwinned in a bundle of pain, gasping. Last night was the same...I haven't dared tried to remember those dreams in any details, guess the notebook is making it's coming out oncemore...and coming with me on a new trip, unexpected and exciting. Interview was cancelled and I get to fly off to Genoa for a week,  in the meantime will benefit from paid vacation while Espen works in Italy. Who is complaining????? Not me:)

Can an atheist get insurance against acts of God?

Andalousia, a place of hidden truth that contains part of my past, of my family, a place I promised myself never to approach until I was ready. I have dreamed about it, enhanced it into a vivid colourful wonderous place, pondering how it would all be in reality and I can only say it is a dream, like walking in a past I have heard so much off. I could recognise traces of my grand-parents, a nose, a cheek, the line of a jaw and even if I knew it was all created by my mind because I wanted it to be wonderous, I wanted it to be this place where past and future beholds, well it did. The architecture reminiscent of the arabic past ,spending one evening in Morocco, Smir, how I miss this culture . It calls me and yet I do not quite understand it or agree with it in anyways. I am torned between two calls, North, Arctic and South, North Africa, Andalousia. Guess having more then one life is useful...

One encounter proved to show me how winners  live. one person in particular embodied all of what I have vainly tried to pursue in the past 2 months, It was as if life was putting him into my path to reassure me that it could be achieved, that I shoudl not give up ever. All people on the boat where reminders of persons I have met in a close or distant past, copies. The instructor taught me not really how to sail but how to respect myself more, to stand up for myself and deal with issues. I am not grateful for the lesson, either how it was taught to me or how it ended but I did need to be reminded of it. How others have thought of this issue is irrelevant. The boatlife is great, sleeping on a boat for 6 days with the wind ruffling past, the community, the boatcats hanging on the pier in Gib. I loved it all, the lifestyle, no problem, the sailing is another matter, I need to respect myself before I can start giving orders to people, it simply isn't in me to tell other people what to do, confidence will have to be built.

I guess in the ultimate plan of higher powers or in the fatal discovery of personal aspects of my personality I resent and have difficulty dealing with, this trip down to the spanish coastline and the unequivocal sailing course has indeed opened, yet, another pathway. I will not linger into the beauty of the surroundings, the good food when we got time off or the great company, minus one specimen. I am not particularly socially apt, I admit it, I have an annoying tendency to hide behind taller, stronger people and get them to fight for me, come on why get bloody handed or punched when you know someone has the capacity to solve the issue in beautiful cursives or elegant speeches. Yet, this brought back a little girl, scared, confused and incapable of dealing with her own issues. Nothing new there, except my way of reacting, I took it all in, didn't explode, didn't fuss, I went away and gently talked myself through it all, analysing before reacting, which is a progress some of you could not truly comprehend.

"Well, Gibraltar is a place which you either love or hate. I quite like it. It's a rock, that's essentially what it is" Nigel

How to put it a mind blowing and physically exhausting week. I will expand on it in a couple of days. Right now, have to settle in front of this screen to prepare for my job interview tomorrow and spend our last day with the cat who is deliberately leaving us for greener shores, Copenhagen then Oslo, hoping to get a job out of it. Let's wish him good luck in his computer animation quest.

Spectacles d'Autres mondes

One of them is a very old friend of mine, an adventurer of spirit, my first ever love and a person I admire for his sense of adventure and integrity in this world. This is his video. A long journey across the world as a Clown with his best friend.
If you have time, 56 minutes to be precise, click and be taken into another dimension.

Crow

corvus_corone_d8928

One crow for sorrow,
Two crows for joy,
Three crows for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five crows for silver,
Six crows for gold,
Seven crows for a secret never to be told.

By analysing things and events that have surrounded me in the past 2 years, I see a very strange pattern, a fleeting shape that follows me unconditionnally and appears in the most unusual place or face. Raven, Crow, flying across the land, your form bears the most delicate black feathers, auspicious sign, trying to let me know something, you are recklessly brought into my path.

Oncemore I see a raven, the myhtological trickster or the divine blesser?  Vulturs of the north I used to observe them in Soutampton, landing by the dozens on the common at night, one special bird is here amongst them.  let not dwell too much on it.
